The Rise Of The American Girl Doll
You have noticed this situation before. You’re getting a special toy for a daughter who is referred to as a tween and there is really nothing in stores. During the time between the point where baby dolls stop being relevant and Barbies begin, there should really be a doll - or another toy - for a girl who has grown out of the baby doll phase but is just too young for lifestyle examples with mini skirts and private jets. Another nice option is the Ezip 900 Electric Scooter.
Back in 1983, an entrepreneur named Pleasant Rowland handled this issue by creating the American Girl line of historical dolls and books. The 18-inch dolls were influenced by pretend historical figures whose stories were told in the books. The adventures and characters were assigned to certain decades of American history, ranging from 1764 to 1974.
One of the original dolls which debuted in 1986 was known as Kirsten Larsen. The Kirsten doll symbolized a Swedish child who had just moved to the Minnesota territory in 1854. Kirsten and her experiences invited girls to look into topics such as immigration, how families should work and real bravery. A lot of more dolls came along, with Native American, African American and Hispanic dolls being added to the American Girl series, all having her own story set in a certain time period. Another great product to consider is the Ezip 900 Electric Scooter.
Each of these dolls comes with a set of books written to chronicle her, with several feature films which are influenced by these stories. American Girl dolls have several period costumes that are purchased separately, as well as accessories, which appear prominently in the books.
As an illustration, the Rebecca doll's story takes place in New York during 1914. Rebecca sells for $114 if you purchase her with the initial book and her fundamental accessories, which are a hat and shawl. Supplemental period outfits sell for approximately $30, and you could acquire her turn-of-the-century bed for $118. In one of her adventures, a phonograph becomes a major item in the account, and you could buy a doll-sized phonograph along with three records which will even play music for $44.
The American Girl franchise extends beyond dolls, mind you. American Girl stores in 9 major cities market dolls, apparel, and books as would be expected. At the same time, they also offer eateries where girls can sup with their dolls, hairdressing salons and party rooms where girls and dolls might experience the good life, and picture studios to preserve memories of that special day. There is also an American Girl doll hospital based in Wisconsin where damaged dolls can be sent for repair. Of course, not all families live with the means to consistently visit these stores, yet if you enjoy the money and time, this may be a young girl's dream date. Another good alternative is the Ezip 900 Electric Scooter.
Indeed, you could get 18' dolls which can be cheaper and are not limited by this make believe story line. If you are related to a young girl who would value having a doll with her own personality and narrative, though, it's tough to find anything better than the experience of an American Girl doll.

Baby Doll $12.89 An earlier Elia Kazan film, the 1949 Pinky, now seems dated because its "scandalous" subject, miscegenation, has become a social nonissue. If anything, the reputation of this legendary 1956 romp about a child bride in the Deep South has shifted the other way; the ripe image of Carol Baker as a mentally challenged nymphet who sucks her thumb as she lures grown men into her crib (an actual crib!) wo... |
